The State College Area School District has a One to One Technology initiative in place which allows all students to have access to a device. This initiative compliments the classroom environment by providing options for teachers to enhance lessons and activities with online content and experiences to increase the classroom toolkit. The district provides devices for One to One student use from Kindergarten through graduation. Along with the One to One student devices, SCASD provides and maintains special use laptop carts, library and other shared use computers as well as Technology, Engineering and Business education labs throughout the district.
Students in third grade through twelfth grade at SCASD have access to Chromebooks. Students are able to utilize these devices in the classroom in order to access a variety of age appropriate educational sites and information. Beginning in sixth grade, students are also presented with the opportunity to begin taking their District 1:1 device home. This program allows for students to have continued exposure to educational resources outside of the classroom.
As the district works to replace student devices on a four year cycle, some grade levels have touch screen devices. The grades currently with touch screen equipment are: K,1,2,3,6,7,9,10 and 11.
